The 2017 Equity Joseph Jeff Awards were held this past Monday, November 6 at Drury Lane Oakbrook. Paramount Theatre and Porchlight Music Theatre were both big winners of the night. What a fun week in the studio! Wallace Smith, who plays Hercules Mulligan/James Madison in Hamilton, was in for a taping, and Armando Riesco was back for the second time in less than a week. You can currently see Armando starring in The Fundamentals at Steppenwolf. Thanks for coming in, fellas!
Tonight I had the pleasure of watching graduates perform in the North Central College Senior Showcase. I'm always inspired to see young people who are passionate about theatre put in the work to explore and to create. Theatre is so much more than dressing up in a costume and saying lines. It teaches us about the human condition, about empathy. It's where we learn to express what others are feeling, to understand what we might be feeling ourselves, and where we find a bit of calm amid the chaos.
I wish these seniors well and look forward to their work as professional artists in Chicago!
